Our Activities
Box making
Members of the box making group produce an extremely wide variety of boxes using different techniques, including the use of hand tools. Examples of boxes made include tiny trinket boxes, jewellery boxes and keep-sake boxes. Members usually make the boxes as gifts for family and friends, or sell them at the Annual and Easter exhibitions.
The box making group meets every Tuesday at 1:30pm.
Carving
The carving group produces a wide variety of items including birds, animals, plaques and abstract sculptures.
The group meets every Friday at 9:30am.
General Woodworking
The general woodworking group provides a great opportunity for members who are inexperienced to learn skills by working on a simple project, then progressing on to more detailed ones. The group has many experienced members who assist the newer members by sharing their knowledge, expertise and ideas. Due to its popularity, there are several general woodwork sessions to choose from each week:
Monday and Friday at 1:30pm
Wednesday at 9:30 am and 1:30pm
Saturday at 1:00pm
Guitar Making
Over the years, members of this group have crafted a variety of musical instruments including guitars (acoustic and electric), ukuleles, cigar-box guitars and violins. The current guitar making group is popular, with its members producing high quality instruments.
The group meets every Thursday at 1:30pm
Intarsia
The intarsia group focuses on producing intricate “pictures” using many different timbers.
The group meets every Tuesday at 9:30am.
Model Making
The Club’s model makers are the epitome of patience. Their detailed, to-scale models include boats, ships and motor vehicles.
The group meets every Tuesday at 9:30am.
Woodturning
We have a number of very experienced woodturners who assist members during the session, providing advice and guidance. The group sessions catering for all levels of wood turning, with enough lathes of various sizes for all types of projects.
The Woodturners meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 9:30am.
